About Me
Hi! My name is Briahna Jefferson and I am a 19 year old college student studying at Bradley University. I just recently graduated from Knoxville High School in Knoxville IL. My major here at Bradley University is Elementary Education with an ESL endorsement. This blog is for my History of Education in America class.
I view education with the highest regard as my parents always made it a point to tell me that education would get me farther in life than anything else would. I’ve certainly never been one of those people who studied for hours, but I do put my best foot forward. Especially since I’ve chosen to become an educator, there is now nothing more important to me. I wrote a paper in high school on how the American school system affected women’s rights, and also how it affected the rights for others. Looking back at history, we can see how far we have come, but also the work there still is to be done. Education is life-changing for many people, what you do in school can follow you for the rest of your life in an extremely positive or negative manner. Each person holds their destiny in their hands, but they need good teachers to guide them as well.
Education will most likely impact my entire future as I earn my degree and take place in a classroom. It will even impact me when I send my future children off to school, and hopefully they will learn more than I ever did. The system is always changing and evolving, and I'll strive to be sure that those changes are for the good of all children. I hope that we can get to a point where everyone can access a good education, and that more and more people begin to hold education to a higher regard. Education creates educated people, educated people make our society better, and better education means more opportunity for the generations to come.
